You can choose from three levels of public liability cover from minimum £1,000,000 to maximum £5,000,000.
If you have employee's or hire casual labour from time to time you will also need employers liability insurance for gardeners. GARDENERS INSURANCE: Everything May Be Coming Up Roses At The Moment...
Even if everything in the garden is coming up roses and you have a full order book of work from already contented customers - in fact, particularly if you have a full order book of work from already contented customers - you need gardeners insurance.
Because the busier you are, the more tempted you’ll be to cut the odd corner. And that’s when accidents happen.
You’re not as careful as you might be whilst digging a trench and you rupture a mains water pipe. You’ll be responsible for all the associated repair costs.
You’re not as conscientious as you might be about fixing a loose slab in a path and a customer breaks her ankle tripping over it. You could find yourself on the wrong end of a substantial claim for compensation.
You’re not as alert as you should be to a trainee assistant who cuts himself badly whilst cleaning a lawnmower. You could be sued.
It only takes a single incident like any of the above and, suddenly, everything you’ve been working for could be put at risk. Forget the plans for expansion, the new kitchen, the dream holiday. You’ll be struggling to find the money to meet the terms of a court order and pay the lawyers’ bills.
Unless, of course, you have proper gardener insurance which includes public liability and employers’ liability. Because then you’ll be covered for all those unexpected costs that could, quite literally, put you out of business.
(And don’t forget that if you do employ anyone - even on a casual basis - and you don’t have employers’ liability insurance, you could also be in breach of the law and liable for a hefty fine.)
The best news is that the peace of mind that gardeners insurance offers doesn’t have to be expensive. As you’ll discover if you follow the link to find the insurance for gardeners that’s right for you and your business.
